Donald A. Sweat

Don's practice focuses on civil defense litigation in both the federal and state courts, with an emphasis on business litigation. A native of Albany, Don worked primarily in business transactional work for the first 15 years of his practice. He later changed to a broad civil litigation practice. Now with over 30 years of experience, Don primarily defends lenders in commercial litigation, employers in employment claims, and insureds in personal injury lawsuits. He is actively involved with his three children and has helped foster their academic achievements. He has served as a Dixie League Baseball Coach and has been on the Board of Directors of the Albany/Dougherty YMCA, where he coached basketball and soccer.

Born in 1952, Don is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics summa cum laude in 1974. While there, he was a member of Phi Eta Sigma, Pi Mu Epsilon, and Phi Kappa Phi. He earned his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law, graduating cum laude in 1976. Don was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1976 and is admitted to practice before all State Courts of Georgia, the U. S. District Court, Middle and Northern Districts of Georgia, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court, and the Georgia Court of Appeals.

Don is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the Dougherty Circuit Bar Association, of which he served as President during 1996-97.
